Spend a week in the Frank Church-River Of No Return Wilderness hunting for the king of the backcountry, Rocky Mountain Elk. This Idaho backcountry elk hunt includes the best aspects of adventure: backcountry planes, horses, canvas tents, and seasoned guides. This is a 7-day hunt, and if you “tag out” early you can still enjoy fishing or hunting for bear and wolves.

Because elk tend to be on the move, you will be “spiking out” into different areas each day. The guides on this adventure will prepare a tent for your stay each evening.

Hunting in the backcountry is remote, and you will be moving each day to find elk. Equipment will be packed in with horses and mules.

Pro tip: To ensure a “comfortable” adventure, we recommend hiking and walking to prepare your body for the backcountry.

The seasoned guides on this adventure will assist with navigating to elk and also preparing harvested animals for meat and taxidermy. (Note: Meat butchering/shipping and taxidermy will be done in Stanley, ID for an additional cost)

This adventure is available from mid-September through mid-October.

Fly to Boise, Idaho and take a small plane to Stanley or choose to rent a car and take the scenic drive. Enjoy an evening in the small, rustic community.

The next day, you’ll take a shuttle to the Stanley airport where you’ll catch a plane to fly into the backcountry and meet your guides.

When the hunt is finished, you will take another plane to arrive back in Stanley.
