Home base for this exclusive steelhead adventure is Alaska Steelhead Co.’s premier lodge on the Kenai Peninsula. Perched high on a 200-foot bluff, the lodge offers panoramic views of Cook Inlet, distant volcanoes, and the surrounding mountain ranges. For 2026, guests will enjoy the newly remodeled main lodge and new cabins (photos coming soon!) featuring a stylish “rustic modern” design that blends comfort, upscale finishes, and practical angler-friendly details.

Accommodations include rooms in the main lodge and cabins with private decks. The property features thoughtful amenities such as rod and reel racks, boot dryers, wader storage, spacious living areas, and a fully stocked wet bar offering beer, wine, and mixers (guests may pick up additional hard liquor during the short drive from the airport). Laundry service is also available on-site for $25 per load.

Centrally located for quick access to the area’s most productive rivers, the lodge also includes a private boat launch.

Evenings are relaxed and social, highlighted by late dinners, a fun and informative orientation session, and memorable welcome and farewell parties featuring live music from local musicians. The entire experience centers on exceptional “lodge life,” where attentive staff and a positive, welcoming vibe ensure every angler feels well cared for! When we say this team takes care of their guests, we mean it!

This hosted trip maximizes your time on the water with up to six full guided days at a comfortable 2:1 angler-to-guide ratio aboard drift boats, power drifter, inflatable kayaks or walk and wade opportunities. Guides often provide complimentary one-on-one time for those refining spey casting or swing techniques. The program blends floating productive river sections with wading opportunities, remaining flexible based on conditions, angler preferences, and mobility.

Steelhead in Alaska

Opportunities here feel nearly endless, backed by great waters, strong run sizes, and a diversity of fisheries that few places can match. Many experienced anglers rank Alaska’s steelhead fishing among the best globally.

Expect bright, powerful sea-run rainbows typically in the 8–15+ pound range, with the chance for larger fish. The odds of multiple encounters per day are good on the Kenai Peninsula during October, particularly with fresh pushes of chrome, though this is still steelhead fishing… success can vary with weather, water levels, and fish mood. Some days deliver double-digit hookups or landed fish, while others reward persistence with fewer but memorable takes. October brings crisp fall weather: cool to cold mornings, pleasant daytime highs in the 40s°F, possible rain, wind, or even light snow, and beautiful autumn colors. Layer appropriately and embrace the crisp air – the low fishing pressure and stunning scenery more than compensate.

The Fishing Program with ASC

This trip maximizes time on the water with flexible, guided fly fishing. Target steelhead using proven fly techniques in productive lies – pools, runs, troughs, and more. The backbone river offers “Ironclad Steelhead Insurance” with stable, fishable water and excellent wade-fishing access. Smaller coastal streams and heli fly-outs add variety and wilderness adventure.

Guides tailor the day to conditions and preferences, spreading anglers for low pressure and high success potential. Complimentary instruction helps refine skills, making this a great option for building confidence with steelhead on the fly.

Optional Add-On: The Helicopter Fly-Out Program

For anglers seeking true wilderness adventure, the optional helicopter fly-out upgrade opens access to remote sections of rivers and even opportunities to fish unrecorded steelhead rivers that can only be reached by air. These waters offer the magic of having entire sections of rivers to yourself, surrounded by Alaskan wilderness, wildlife, and fish that rarely see an angler. In ideal conditions, you can access sections of rivers using inflatable kayaks or small rafts, adding excitement and convenience while exploring “little gems” with easy wading and manageable rigs.

Remote sections of rivers deliver outstanding steelhead fishing, as well as stunning backdrops that feel otherworldly. This “next-level” heli program perfectly complements the local river fishing, giving you a rare chance to name a productive run if you’re the first to hook a steelhead there!

Getting to this trip is simple and straightforward!
