The Pyrenean Classic

Native Zebra Trout & Iberian Barbel

This signature Salvelinus adventure draws on decades of intimate knowledge of the Pyrenees, offering a striking range of water. At its core are two exceptional native species: the Zebra Trout, a Mediterranean brown trout phenotype found nowhere else on Earth, and the powerful Iberian Barbel, a hard-fighting fish ideally suited to the dry fly.

Over 6 nights and 5 days of fishing (March–November), guests base at Bajo la Piedra Fly-Fishing Lodge in the Aren Valley, with round-trip logistics from Barcelona. Accommodations flex between exclusive regional properties (boutique hotels and refined Spanish country houses) positioned close to the best water at any given time, ensuring the itinerary can be tailored for optimal conditions throughout the season.

DestinationX Spain

Secluded Waters Fly-Fishing Experience

This off-the-radar adventure centers on a remarkable spring-fed system of streams and creeks where sight-fishing and dry flies rule. Trophy Iberian barbel and rainbows hold in clear water that rewards patience and precise presentation over blind casting.

Access is limited to a narrow spring window (March–May), and the location remains confidential until arrival, guaranteeing solitude, silence, and fish that have never learned to fear an angler. Guests stay 6 nights / 5 days fishing at La Posada de Iberia, with arrival via Madrid.

The Grand Iberian Journey

Signature Pyrenean & Spanish Fly-Fishing

This three-species journey travels from the wild rivers of the Pyrenees to a confidential destination reserved for those who make the crossing. Anglers pursue browns, barbel, and rainbows across rarely fished waters, with each expedition meticulously tailored.

Designed for both passionate novices and seasoned experts, the program runs 9 nights / 7 days of fishing on select departures in May, September, and November. Arrival is via Madrid and departure via Barcelona, with lodging at a confidential location revealed upon arrival.

Experience unparalleled comfort and local charm with thoughtfully selected accommodations. Whether nestled in a medieval village or a quaint Pyrenean hamlet, each lodge offers a perfect blend of rustic elegance and modern amenities.

After a day of exceptional fly fishing, relax in cozy, well-appointed rooms and enjoy hearty regional cuisine crafted from local ingredients. Every detail is designed to enhance your fishing adventure and immerse you in the rich culture and natural beauty of the Pyrenees.

For all experience levels and all ages, this is a great trip for the whole family, as well as large groups, offsite events, company retreats, etc. The guides are extremely well-known in the area, are some of the best in the region, and will customize your experience to make sure you have the trip of a lifetime!

About The Fish

Brown Trout

The predominant species is the Brown trout, particularly an old Mediterranean sub-species. In high country freestones, some exhibit four dark stripes, earning them the nickname “Zebra Trout.”

Rainbow Trout

Rainbows were introduced into Pyrenean waters over 60 years ago. Generally more aggressive than browns, these large rainbows can present a true challenge.

Brook Trout

Many Pyrenean headwaters were stocked with Brook Trout in the 1950s. Today, they are found only in specific streams and lakes, rarely coexisting with other trout, and readily rise to dry flies.

Iberian Barbel

Powerful native barbel, living in freestone streams, are known for their strength and are exciting to catch on dry flies. If you’re up for the challenge while trout fishing, these barbel will test your ability to accurately sight cast.
