The same waters that hold roosters also produce electric dorado (mahi-mahi), powerful jack crevalle (toros), yellowtail, skipjack and yellowfin tuna, sailfish, and a variety of snapper, grouper, and other reef species.
This multi-species richness means days are rarely one-dimensional. You might start the morning sight-casting to roosters along the beach, then shift to chasing surface-feeding dorado or jacks later in the day. The variety keeps the action exciting and gives every angler a full and memorable experience!
Historically, the Sea of Cortez put roosterfish on the map. The 114-pound world record came from these waters in 1960, and the long-running International Roosterfish Tournament helped establish the East Cape as the “Roosterfish Capital of the World.” In the fly-fishing world, the landmark film Running Down the Man further elevated beach-running pursuits here into a global obsession.
