Perched on a private island within the South Water Caye Marine Reserve, Blue Horizon Lodge blends the charm of a classic Caribbean fishing lodge with the comfort of modern amenities. Rebuilt and reopened in 2021 on legendary guide Lincoln Westby’s original footprint, the lodge offers air-conditioned rooms with ocean views, hot showers, and island-wide Wi-Fi—everything you need after a full day on the flats. With only a handful of guest rooms, the atmosphere is intimate and relaxed, ensuring every angler receives personal attention and world-class service from the staff and guide team.

Each day begins with fresh-brewed coffee and a hearty breakfast overlooking the water, followed by chef-prepared lunches and beautifully crafted dinners that highlight Belize’s local ingredients and coastal flavors. Expect fresh-caught seafood, tropical produce, and homemade desserts, typically served family-style in the open-air dining area. After dinner, guests often gather for a drink under the stars, swapping stories from the day’s fishing or simply enjoying the easygoing rhythm of island life. Blue Horizon Lodge provides a perfect balance of focused fishing, genuine hospitality, and laid-back comfort.

Blue Horizon Belize sits at the heart of the legendary Permit Alley, home to some of the most productive and picturesque flats fishing in the Caribbean. With shallow, crystal-clear water stretching in every direction, anglers can spot and stalk tailing permit, bonefish, and tarpon. The region’s proximity to the flats means minimal boat rides and maximum fishing time, with expert guides leading you to prime water during the most productive tide windows. Blue Horizon’s team of English-speaking guides are among the most skilled and respected in Belize, offering insight, instruction, and patience to help you make every shot count.

Fishing here is productive year-round, with permit available in every season and peak conditions typically from February through September. Tarpon fishing heats up from May to early September, when migratory fish join the resident population, while bonefish can be targeted any day of the year on the region’s expansive sand and turtle grass flats. This unique combination of consistent conditions, expert guiding, and species diversity makes Blue Horizon one of the best places in the world to pursue a Belize Grand Slam—landing a permit, bonefish, and tarpon all in the same trip.

Getting to Blue Horizon Lodge is simple and scenic. Guests will first fly into Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) in Belize City, which is serviced daily by several major airlines from the United States and Canada.

From Belize City, it’s just a 30-minute domestic flight to Placencia, where a member of the Blue Horizon team will meet you for your boat transfer to the lodge. The ride to the island takes about 30–45 minutes, offering a beautiful introduction to the turquoise waters and mangrove-lined cayes of southern Belize.

Most anglers choose to arrive in Belize City by early afternoon (no later than 3:00pm) to make same-day transfers, though overnighting in Belize City is also an option if your flight arrives later in the day. Got Fishing will assist with coordinating all in-country travel, including domestic flights and boat transfers, to ensure a smooth and seamless arrival. Once you’re on the island, everything is taken care of – your job is to fish, relax, and enjoy one of the Caribbean’s most legendary saltwater fly fishing destinations.
