Fish the famous “Jurassic Lake” for giant rainbow trout while being in the care of the most seasoned guides and staff in the area!
Set on the rugged shores of Lago Strobel – better known to anglers around the world as “Jurassic Lake” – Lago Strobel Lodge offers access to one of the most legendary rainbow trout fisheries on Earth. This remote gem is famous for its abundance of massive rainbow trout. Most trout range from eight to ten pounds, but fifteen to twenty pound fish are also frequently caught!
The lake’s nutrient-rich, glacier-fed waters and minimal fishing pressure create an ideal environment for growing trophy fish. As the sister lodge to renowned Estancia Laguna Verde, Lago Strobel Lodge delivers much of the same world-class fishing experience, with a slightly simpler setup and a more approachable price point. Anglers from around the globe are quickly discovering that this lodge offers a rare balance of comfort, service, and serious fishing – making it one of the best values at Jurassic Lake!
Lago Strobel Lodge offers a quaint and comfortable base camp in one of the most remote fishing destinations on the planet. With just four double-occupancy guest rooms, each featuring private en-suite bathrooms, the lodge is designed to host small groups of anglers who appreciate both solitude and personalized service.
After a long day on the water, you’ll return to warm hospitality, hearty traditional Argentine meals, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy a glass of local wine with freshly prepared dinners crafted by the in-house chef, unwind by the fire, and relive the day’s highlights with fellow anglers.
The lodge is fully heated, powered by reliable 220v electricity, and offers high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi, so you can stay in touch with the outside world.
Jurassic Lake has earned a stellar reputation for producing some of the largest wild rainbow trout on the planet, and Lago Strobel Lodge gives you front-row access AND top notch guides. The lodge offers exclusive guided fishing on a variety of productive beats, each with its own character and challenges.
You’ll spend most of your time along the north, northeast, and eastern shores of Lago Strobel, where the combination of shallow bays, rocky drop-offs, and wind-sheltered points create ideal ambush zones for big trout. These fish are aggressive, fight well, and frequently break the 10-pound mark. Sight fishing is possible on calmer days, and anglers often experience explosive surface takes in crystal-clear water.
A highlight of the program is a full-day guided outing on the Barrancoso River: Jurassic Lake’s only tributary and one of the few moving water systems in the area. This spring-fed river is narrow, technical, and loaded with strong, acrobatic rainbows that are hungry for flies!

Your trip will begin with an international flight Buenos Aires and then to El Calafate. It’s important to note that you may fly into the Ministro Pistarini International Airport (1), but your flight to El Calafate may depart from the Jorge Newbery Airport (2), which is in a different part of the city.
Once in El Calafate (3), you will stay the night in a hotel and get the chance to explore the beautiful city life, have a nice dinner, and witness the nearby glaciers. The following morning, you’ll be picked up by a representative of Estancia Laguna Verde Lodge, where you’ll take a 4-hour scenic drive to Jurassic Lake (4). During the half-paved half-off-road shuttle, you’ll have plenty of photo ops, will stop at a café, a gift shop, and have bathroom breaks. The shuttle ride may seem long, but the lodge gets great feedback; This drive is all a part of the adventure and a great way to see the diverse scenery and vast landscapes! You’ll be able to fish as soon as you arrive or relax if you’d like.
The program typically runs from Saturday to Sunday. After your time at the lodge is finished, you’ll have a shuttle ride back to El Calafate, in time for your flight home. The hotels in El Calafate are not included in the listed rate but will be reserved for you upon booking and included in your custom itinerary.
