Lagoon View is a family-owned and operated lodge located on the white-sand shores of Christmas Island, Kiribati – one of the most legendary flats fishing destinations in the world. While the lodge doesn’t have a flashy website or a big online presence, don’t let that fool you – Lagoon View has earned a quiet reputation among in-the-know anglers who return year after year for the authenticity, comfort, and heartfelt hospitality it delivers. Most guests find their way here through word-of-mouth, and that speaks volumes about the experience.
Since welcoming their first guests in 2011, the local family behind Lagoon View, led by the kind and attentive Tima and her daughters, has grown the resort into a comfortable and welcoming home base for up to 15 anglers. With an open-air meeting space perfect for swapping fish stories, a well-designed dining hall serving freshly prepared meals, and easy walk-out access to the lagoon for boat pickups, everything about Lagoon View is built to support a great fishing adventure.
The local staff is known for their warmth and attentiveness, and with daily laundry, room service, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi, you’ll be well cared for throughout your stay. Whether you’re chasing bonefish, triggerfish, or the elusive giant trevally, Lagoon View delivers a true Christmas Island experience with heartfelt hospitality.
Christmas Island is revered by saltwater anglers around the globe for its expansive, hard-bottomed flats and rich diversity of species. This remote atoll offers some of the most consistent and productive sight fishing opportunities anywhere in the world. Bonefish are plentiful and often found tailing in skinny water, offering exciting chances for beginners and seasoned anglers alike. Beyond bonefish, the island is famous for its trophy-sized giant trevally: powerful predators that test your skill and gear in heart-pounding encounters. You’ll also have shots at triggerfish, bluefin trevally, milkfish, and more. With experienced local guides who know the tides, terrain, and travel patterns of these fish, your days on the water are full of potential and adventure. Whether you’re wading the flats or casting from a skiff, Christmas Island delivers a truly unforgettable saltwater fly fishing experience.
Lagoon View offers clean, comfortable accommodations designed to help you recharge after long days on the flats. The lodge now hosts up to 15 guests in well-kept, air-conditioned rooms, with daily housekeeping and laundry service included to keep things fresh throughout your stay. Originally built with just a few rooms when it opened in 2011, Lagoon View has grown thoughtfully while maintaining its close-knit, welcoming feel.
Each guest room is simple yet functional, equipped with modern amenities like A/C and Wi-Fi, so you can stay cool and connected—even in this remote corner of the world. The recently completed lodge office and upstairs family residence ensure that the friendly, on-site staff is always available to assist with anything you need.
Meals are served in a beautifully designed dining hall, with a connected kitchen where hearty, satisfying dishes are prepared daily. At the center of the property, an open meeting area offers a casual space to relax, socialize, and trade stories from the day’s adventure.
With direct beach access and an easy walk to the lagoon each morning, Lagoon View combines island simplicity with thoughtful service to make your stay comfortable, convenient, and full of genuine hospitality.
Lagoon View partners with experienced, local guides who know the island’s waters intimately, from the expansive lagoon flats to the ocean-side reefs.
Each day, anglers depart directly from the beach in front of the lodge, boarding traditional outrigger-style boats for a short ride to the day’s fishing grounds. Most of the fishing is done by wading the vast, hard-bottomed flats that make Christmas Island so legendary. Bonefish are the bread and butter here, as they are abundant, eager, and often tailing in shallow water. But what really sets this destination apart is the chance to target a wide range of other species, including colorful triggerfish, powerful bluefin trevally, and the infamous giant trevally (GTs), which can appear like torpedoes over the flats.
Fishing is productive year-round thanks to Christmas Island’s consistent weather and equatorial location, with only minor seasonal variations. The guides are skilled at reading tides and conditions to give you the best shot at success each day, whether that means chasing cruising GTs, stalking spooky triggers, or casting to schools of bonefish. Whether you’re a first-time saltwater angler or a returning flats veteran, Lagoon View offers a well-run, flexible fishing program that gives you access to some of the most exciting and diverse saltwater fly fishing in the world.

Booking flights to this incredible destination is easier than ever, ensuring you have a seamless and unforgettable fishing experience. Ultimate Vacations specializes in flights to many destinations in the Pacific, including Christmas Island, and their expertise ensures easy planning and travel to this destination.
The airport on Christmas Island is very small and easy to navigate; The airport code is CXI.
Arriving
You’ll begin your adventure by booking a flight to Honolulu (1). There is only one weekly flight to and from Christmas Island from Honolulu. You’ll arrive in Honolulu on a Monday and should plan on spending the evening here. The Fiji Airways flight to Christmas Island leaves Tuesday mornings around noon, and is approximately a three-hour flight. When you arrive on Christmas Island (2), it will be Wednesday (around 3pm typically), since you cross the International Date Line; While on Hawaii time you’re flying Tuesday to Tuesday, on Christmas Island time you’re actually flying Wednesday to Wednesday. After clearing immigration and customs, a lodge staff member will meet you at the airport and shuttle you to the lodge (3) that’s 30 minutes away.
Departing
On your way home from the island, you’ll be shuttled back to the airport where you’ll hop on a flight back to Honolulu. The flight back to Honolulu typically leaves at 7am on Wednesday morning (Tuesday Hawaii time). You’ll be served a light breakfast and depart for the airport around 5:30am for check in (but can go back to the lodge 10 min. away until your plane is ready to depart). Your flight will land back in Honolulu around 11am Tuesday, crossing back over that International Date Line. From there, you can vacation Hawaii or make your way back to the mainland.
Delayed Flights and Extended Stays
If weather or mechanical issues prevent the flight from landing on Kiritimati there is the possibility that you will need to stay an additional week on the Island. This does not happen often, but it is always something to remember when booking your trip. If you are required to spend an additional week we will work with you on costs for the extended stay.
Travel insurance and medical evacuation insurance are practical ways to ensure your safety and peace of mind while adventuring in remote locales like Christmas Island and we highly recommend you purchase both. If you’re interested in travel insurance, we are partners with and recommend Global Rescue.
